Please Note: During player registration process for Fall/Winter 2025-2026 season, you will also be required to pay players $27 annual Alberta Basketball / Canada Basketball membership fee, which goes directly to ABA.

ALBERTA BASKETBALL / CANADA BASKETBALL MEMBERSHIP FEE 

  • When completing player registration you will be required to pay the annual ABA/CB Membership Fee ($27.00).  This fee goes directly to Alberta Basketball and Canada Basketball. 
  • You have to complete this step first before proceeding to and completing the Player Registration for Bow River South Basketball Association. 
  • You will receive a confirmation from Bow River South Basketball Association once you have completed your full registration.  If you do not receive this email then your registration has not been completed correctly.

*Players born between September 1 - December 31, 2006, must provide proof of full-time high school status (i.e. student timetable).

 

Proof of Age and Designated Age Groups

  • All  U11/U13/U15/HS must provide a copy of their birth certificate - may be uploaded during or after online registration. 
  • A player's registration will not be accepted or considered complete until this has been received (even if payment has been made) which, after August 15, could result in being placed on a waitlist. 
  • Note that players must register in their designated age group (no "play-ups" to older age groups or "play-downs" to younger age groups). 

 

Practices and Games

  • The U11/U13/U15 and U18 teams practice at least once a week in the SE of Calgary.
  • Practice schedules cannot be provided before evaluations. Upon the closure of registration, our coordinators will contact you with your requests. 

 

  • The U11/U13/U15 Teams Season (Games) Run from October to March, Consisting of approximately 17 games: 15 regular-season games, and 2 playoff games played once a week usually on Saturday. 
  • These games can be anywhere in the City of Calgary and last for about an hour between the hours of 9 am and 5:45 pm.
  • U15 Boys Teams may occasionally play on Friday nights between 6:30 pm and 10:00 pm. 
  • U9 program will be held on FRIDAYS between 5-7  pm. This program is run out of multiple gymnasiums in the SE of Calgary
  • U18 Boys and Girls Season (FALL) - (5 Regular Season Games and 2 Playoff Games)
  • Games start Mid to Late September and end mid-November in order to be finished so players can try out for their high school teams.
  • There will be a break from mid-November to Early January to allow for high school tryouts.
  • U18 Boys Season (Winter) - (5 Regular Season Games and 2 Playoff Games
  • Games start early January and end Mid March with some teams getting the opportunity to compete in Alberta Basketball Youth Provincials.
  • U18 Girls Season (Winter) - FIBA 3x3 Format with Teams of 5-6 Girls.  
  • Games run on various weekends (3 games per day) between January to March with Playoffs and some teams getting the opportunity to compete in Alberta Basketball Youth Provincials. 

 

Evaluations

  • In early September all registered players will be contacted by your age group coordinator with dates and locations of the evaluation nights.
  • Evaluations take place in September and will be over multiple nights (3-4 Nights).
  • Bow River South Basketball Association has a policy that parents are NOT PERMITTED in the gym during evaluations.

 

Residency

  • Please ensure you reside within the Bow River boundaries by reviewing Calgary Minor Basketball ZONE MAP.  Bow River is unable to accept registrations from out of area players.
  • Our area is south of 50th Avenue and east of Macleod Trail and South to the city boundaries.  Our boundaries include the following communities:

Uniform Return Policy

  • Each player is responsible for the uniform they are issued.  
  • Uniforms are to be worn for GAMES ONLY and are not to be worn to practices.
  • Uniforms must be returned to the coach at the end of the season in good condition
  • Failure to return the uniform by the date specified by our Uniform Coordinators (Mid March - TBC), will result in players not being able to register for the next season or a $125.00 charge applied to your Credit card.
  • Parents electing to pay with cheque or seeking financial assistance are required to submit a cheque post dated February 1, 2026

 

Financial Assistance

  • Kidsport Canada provides assistance "to overcome the financial obstacles that prevent some young people from playing sport."

Availability of Spots / Late Registrations 

  • Due to high demand and various other constraints player spots are not guaranteed. 
  • If you did not complete your registration fully, completely and received a confirmation email at the time of registration from Bow River South Basketball Association your spot is not guaranteed.  
  • If an age group has reached capacity players will be placed on a waitlist.  If spots become available players will be contacted prior to first night of their scheduled evaluations.
